Invaernewedd (Winter’s Child)

Invaernewedd cáemm aép Lammas! She comes with the seventh savaed. With the harvest we shall reap the seed sown in winter’s chill…–Cedric of Lobinden

For reasons beyond his understanding, Geralt of Rivia keeps finding himself involved in matters regarding the safety and keeping of children. First Alvin, now a seven-year-old, half-elven refugee from Flotsam who disappeared from the city of Vergen right around the time Saskia the Dragonslayer was poisoned.

Talking to the girl’s mother, Geralt discovers there’s more to this child than meets the eye, and there’s a strong possibility she’s run away in an attempt to make contact with her real father, who just so happens to be commander of the Scoia’tael who’ve come to Saskia and Vergen’s aid.

*This story is directly connected to Veloë Vort, taking place approximately eight years after events in the forest outside Flotsam.

Such a wonderful story by a wonderful writer. Thank you.

But now I wonder about Helgi and Iorveth’s conversation when he leaves with Geralt for Loc Muinne. No pressure of course… :)

Ooh, now there’s a good idea for a short little one-shot, maybe. I am working on Helti and Cedric’s story now, but maybe when I am finished with that! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Sandy. Thank you for leaving a comment!
