The Gift

So it was written, in Sovngard when the Dragonborn slew the World Eater she accepted the gift of time from Akatosh himself.  And with this gift, the burdens that had weighed so heavily on her soul were lifted and she was able to live a life of peace and simplicity.

But the gifts from the gods are never simple.  Was Luthein’s gift merely a bat squeak echo in the vast expanse of infinite time?  Or was it a dragon break?  When Akatosh saw that Alduin’s soul was not absorbed, as were those of his minions, did he anticipate another coming?  And in doing so, did he protect a part of the Dragonborn so that he might return him to a world where he would be needed?
